The name "Hamilton" came from a place called Hamilton's Tavern. A tavern was like an old-fashioned inn or restaurant where people could eat, drink, and sometimes stay the night. It was a popular spot in the community back then.

In 1837, the area known as Terre Coupee was officially platted. This means someone drew up a detailed map showing where all the streets, lots, and buildings would go. It was like planning out the whole neighborhood!
The Old Post Office
Terre Coupee even had its own post office. It first opened its doors in 1831. This was a really important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1893.
