Hamilton Parish facts for kids
Hamilton Parish is one of the nine parishes, or areas, in Bermuda. It was first called Bedford Parish. Later, it was renamed after a Scottish nobleman, James Hamilton, 2nd Marquess of Hamilton. He bought land shares in the Virginia Company from another important person, Lucy Russell.
Hamilton Parish is located in the northwest part of Bermuda. A large body of water called Harrington Sound divides it into two parts. The islands inside Harrington Sound are also part of this parish. Hamilton Parish connects to Smith's Parish in the south. It also connects to St. George's Parish in the northeast. Like most parishes in Bermuda, it is quite small. It covers about 2.3 square miles (6.0 square kilometers). In 2016, about 5,584 people lived there.

Natural Wonders of Hamilton Parish
Hamilton Parish has many beautiful natural spots. These include Flatt's Inlet, a narrow waterway. There is also Trunk Island, a small island in Harrington Sound. Other places are Shelly Bay and Bailey's Bay, which are lovely coastal areas.
The parish also has Mangrove Lake and Trott's Pond. These are important freshwater areas. You can also find the amazing Crystal Cave here. Castle Harbor is a large bay. The Causeway is a road that links Hamilton Parish to St. George's Parish.

Hamilton Parish is home to some interesting places. The Bermuda Aquarium and Museum is a popular spot. Here, you can learn about Bermuda's sea life and history.
Flatt's Village: A Historic Hub
The small village of Flatt's Village is in Hamilton Parish. In the past, Bermuda's government sometimes met here. This was instead of meeting in St. George's, which was the capital back then. Flatts Village grew because it was a good distance from customs officials. This helped its economy when shipping was very important.
Bailey's Bay: A Lively Community
Bailey's Bay is on the north shore of the parish. It has always been a busy community. However, it never became an official town. The name "Bailey's Bay" covers a larger area. This includes Callan Glen, a valley named after a shipbuilder. It also includes Coney Island and Walsingham. The area stretches west to Abbot's Cliff.
Families like the Outerbridges were very important in this area for a long time. Key landmarks include Abbot's Cliff and the famous Crystal Caves. Mount Wyndham was once the site of Admiralty House. This was where plans were made for an attack on Washington D.C. in 1815. Other historic sites include Tom Moore's Tavern, now a restaurant. There is also a nature reserve next to it. The western end of The Causeway is also in this area.
Other Community Areas
Other areas in Hamilton Parish are also important. These include The Crawl, with Crawl Hill. Locals often just call it 'Crawl'. Shelly Bay is another well-known community area.
