Mangrove Lake is the biggest lake in Bermuda. It's a special kind of lake because its water is a mix of fresh and salty water. This is called brackish water.
The lake is very close to the Atlantic Ocean. During big storms, ocean water can sometimes flow into the lake. This is why the water is a bit salty.

Discovering Mangrove Lake
Mangrove Lake is located in Bermuda. It sits right on the edge between two areas: Smith's Parish and Hamilton Parish. You can find it to the east of a place called Harrington Sound.
Home to Unique Wildlife
This lake is a very important home for animals. It has the largest group of a special fish called the Bermuda killifish. This fish is endemic to Bermuda. This means it is found naturally only in Bermuda and nowhere else in the world!
A Stop for Birds
Mangrove Lake is also a great spot for watching birds. Many birds that travel long distances across the Atlantic Ocean stop here to rest. It's like a rest stop for them on their big journeys. Birdwatchers love to visit this lake.
Fun Facts About the Lake
Did you know that Mangrove Lake is also part of a golf course? It acts as a "water hazard" on one of Bermuda's best golf courses. This means golfers have to be careful not to hit their golf balls into the lake!
A smaller lake, called Trott's Pond, is not far away. It's about 800 meters (or half a mile) to the northeast of Mangrove Lake.
