Hamka Hamzah is a famous Indonesian footballer. He was born on January 29, 1984. Hamka mostly played as a centre-back, which is a defensive position.
Interestingly, he also played as a forward sometimes. Once, he even played as a goalkeeper for Persik Kediri! Hamka is known for his strong play and leadership on the field.
Hamka Hamzah's Football Journey
Hamka Hamzah played for the Indonesian national team. He was part of the team in the 2010 AFF Championship tournament. His strong defense made him a respected player.
He always found a place in the national team because of his consistent performance. Hamka is 183 cm (about 6 feet) tall.
Besides his hometown club PSM, Hamka played for many big teams in Indonesia. These include Persik Kediri, Arema Cronus, Persebaya, Persija, Persisam, and Persipura.
When he was with Persija, Hamka scored many goals for a defender. A former coach, Sergei Dubrovin, praised his unique skills. Hamka even became the captain of Persija because of his big influence.
Club Career Highlights
Starting with PSM Makassar
Hamka started his football journey with PSM Makassar Junior. This was in 2001, when he was just 17 years old. He later played for the main PSM Makassar team in 2017.
Moving to Persebaya Surabaya
After his time with PSM Makassar, Hamka joined Persebaya Surabaya in 2002. He played 20 games for them and scored 1 goal.
Time at Persik Kediri
After one season in Surabaya, he moved to Persik Kediri. He stayed there for almost two seasons. During this time, he played 50 games and scored 2 goals. Hamka often wore jersey number 23, which was his favorite.
Playing for Persija Jakarta
In 2005, Hamka joined Persija Jakarta, a popular team in the capital city. Fans of Persija, called The Jakmania, really liked him. They admired his great defending skills.
At Persija, Hamka was very good at scoring goals for a defender. He scored 5 goals in 62 games. He played for Persija for almost three seasons. After that, he returned to Persik Kediri for a short period.
Later, he played for several other big clubs. These included Persisam Samarinda, Persipura Jayapura, Mitra Kukar, PKNS, Pusamania Borneo, and Arema Cronus. He even became captain at Arema.
Playing Abroad with PKNS Selangor
Hamka also played football outside Indonesia. He signed a contract with PKNS Selangor, a club in Malaysia. This was a big step in his career.
On the field, Hamka used to show a lot of emotion. But he learned from his experiences and became a team captain. After becoming captain, he played more calmly and maturely.
After playing for many different clubs, he returned to his hometown team, PSM Makassar. He became their captain again in 2019.
Joining Bekasi City
On July 1, 2022, Hamka joined Bekasi City. This club plays in Liga 2, which is a lower division in Indonesia.
Becoming Manager at RANS Nusantara
Hamka is no longer an active player. He became the manager for RANS Nusantara. On March 17, 2024, Hamka played his first game in two years. He played as a player-manager for RANS against Bali United. The game ended in a 1–1 draw.
