Hamka Hamzah, born on January 29, 1984, is a well-known Indonesian former football player. He mostly played as a centre-back, which means he helped protect his team's goal. Today, he works as a manager for the RANS Nusantara football club. It's interesting to know that he also played as a forward and even once as a goalkeeper!

Hamka Hamzah: A Football Star
Hamka Hamzah played as a strong defender for the Indonesia national team. He was part of the team in the 2010 AFF Championship tournament. Standing at 183cm (about 6 feet) tall, his consistent play made him a respected player. He was known for his fighting spirit against opposing strikers. This helped him always have a spot on the national team.
Hamka has played for many big clubs in Indonesia. These include PSM Makassar, Persik Kediri, Arema Cronus, Persebaya Surabaya, Persija Jakarta, Persisam, and Persipura Jayapura. While playing for Persija, he was one of the team's top goal scorers, which is unusual for a defender! A former coach, Sergei Dubrovin, praised Hamka's unique skills. Because he was so important, Hamka was asked to become the team captain.
Hamka Hamzah's Football Journey
Hamka Hamzah started his football journey with his hometown club, PSM Makassar. He joined PSM Makassar Junior in 2001 when he was just 17 years old. He played for their senior team from 2001 to 2002.
Playing for Persebaya Surabaya
After his time with PSM Makassar, Hamka joined Persebaya Surabaya in 2002. He played 20 games for them and scored one goal.
Time at Persik Kediri
After only one season in Surabaya, he moved to Persik Kediri. He stayed there for almost two seasons, playing 50 games and scoring two goals. Hamka often wore the number 23 jersey, which was his favorite number.
Becoming a Fan Favorite at Persija Jakarta
In 2005, Hamka joined Persija Jakarta, a popular team in the capital city. He quickly became a favorite among the fans, known as The Jakmania. They loved his great defending skills and strong play.
At Persija, Hamka was very effective as a defender. He scored 5 goals in 62 games. He played for Persija for nearly three seasons before returning to Persik Kediri for about one season. After that, he played for several other big clubs. These included Persisam Samarinda, Persipura Jayapura, Mitra Kukar, PKNS, Pusamania Borneo, and Arema Cronus. He even became captain at Arema.
Playing Abroad with PKNS Selangor
Hamka is one of the few Indonesian players who has played football outside of Indonesia. He signed a big contract with the Malaysian club PKNS Selangor.
On the field, Hamka used to show a lot of emotion. He learned from these experiences and grew into a strong leader. After becoming a captain, Hamka became calmer and played with more wisdom. Later, he returned to his hometown club, PSM Makassar, and became their captain in 2019.
Latest Clubs: Bekasi City and RANS Nusantara
On July 1, 2022, Hamka joined Bekasi City, a club in Indonesia's Liga 2.
Now, Hamka is no longer an active player. He has taken on the role of manager for RANS Nusantara. On March 17, 2024, Hamka even played his first game in two years for RANS. He played as a player-manager against Bali United, and the game ended in a 1–1 draw.
