A Look Back: The History of Hamlet Station

The Hamlet Station was first built in 1900. It was created by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. This building served as both a place for passengers and a main office for the railroad company.

It was originally known as the Seaboard Air Line Passenger Depot. Because of its historical importance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. This means it is recognized as a special historic building.

Between 2001 and 2004, the entire station building was carefully moved. It was shifted across some train tracks to make it safer. After its move, the North Carolina Department of Transportation changed it into a museum.

Train Services at Hamlet Station

The station is run by Amtrak. It provides train service between different cities using the Silver Star line. This means you can catch a train here to travel to other towns and cities.

The station is open every day during specific hours. You can visit from 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM and again from 10:30 PM to 12:30 AM. Inside, you will find a special machine called a Quik-Trak kiosk to help with tickets. There is also a waiting area and restrooms for passengers. Please note that this station does not offer baggage service.

Explore the Hamlet Depot & Museums

Inside the old depot building, you'll find the Hamlet Depot & Museums. This museum shares the history of the Seaboard Railroad and the city of Hamlet. It's a fun place to learn!

The museum has many interesting things to see and do. You can enjoy hands-on exhibits, look at visual displays, and use interactive consoles. One of the coolest features is a detailed model railroad display. It shows what Hamlet looked like in the early 1950s.
