Hancock, Missouri facts for kids
Hancock is a small place in Pulaski County, Missouri, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's part of the larger county government.
History of Hancock
Hancock was officially planned and mapped out in 1869. This process is called "platting," which means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be. The community was named after an early settler in the area, Jap Hancock. A post office was opened in Hancock in 1869, helping people send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1955.
