Hans Olof Holmström (born October 15, 1784 – died August 27, 1855) was an important Swedish leader in the Church of Sweden. He held a very high position as the archbishop of Uppsala from 1852 to 1855.

His Life and Career

Hans Olof Holmström was born in a place called Ösmo, Sweden. His parents were Stefan Holmström and Engel Risberg.

He studied at Uppsala University, which is a famous school in Sweden. In 1806, he earned a master's degree. This means he completed advanced studies in a subject.

Later, he became a teacher at the university. In 1811, he was named an associate professor of Latin. Then, in 1816, he became an associate professor in the Faculty of Philosophy.

In 1828, he became a vicar, which is a type of priest, in the Dunker-Lilla Malma parish. He continued to rise in the church.

In 1839, he was chosen to be the bishop of the Diocese of Strängnäs. A bishop is a senior leader in the church. He served in this role for many years.

In 1852, Hans Olof Holmström was given an even more important job. He became the archbishop of Uppsala. This is the highest position in the Church of Sweden. At the same time, he also became the vice chancellor of Uppsala University. This meant he helped lead the university. He held these important roles until his death in 1855.
