The Story of Harbin

Harbin was settled a long time ago, in the 1860s. It got its name from a kind person who gave land. This land was used to build a church for the community.

Around 1950, Harbin had its largest population. About 80 people lived there at that time. In the 1950s, Harbin had a school, two stores, and a Baptist church. The Harbin Post Office closed sometime between 1980 and 2000. From the 1980s through the 2000s, the population stayed steady at 21 people.

On July 27, 2009, something exciting happened. The Erath County Commissioners gave permission for a Volunteer Fire Department to start in Harbin. This was big news! It was even shown on KWTX-TV.
