Harborside (Jersey City) facts for kids

Harborside is a large group of office buildings in Jersey City, New Jersey. It is located right on the Hudson Waterfront, which is the area along the Hudson River. These buildings are mostly owned and managed by a company called Mack-Cali Realty Corporation. One building, Harborside Plaza 10, was sold but is still managed by them.

What is Harborside?

Harborside is a big complex of buildings where many different companies have their offices. It's a very important business area in Jersey City. People who work here can enjoy views of the Manhattan skyline across the river.

Harborside Buildings: A Closer Look

The Harborside complex includes several buildings, each with its own features. Some are already built, and some are still being planned.

Harborside Plaza 1

• This is an eight-story office building.
• In 2007, its main entrance area (lobby) was updated. The design was done by a company called Beyer Blinder Belle.

Harborside Plazas 2 and 3

• These two buildings are connected and are 12 stories tall.
• They are the oldest buildings in the Harborside complex.
• Together, they have a very large amount of office space, almost 1.5 million square feet.

Harborside Plaza 4

• This building is still being planned.
• It is expected to be a very tall skyscraper with 38 floors.

Harborside Plaza 4A

• This building has offices, shops, and a large parking garage.
• It's a three-story office building built on top of a seven-story parking garage.
• There are also shops on the west side of the building.

Harborside Plaza 5

• This tall building is 480 feet (about 146 meters) high.
• It was finished in 2002 and has 34 floors.
• It is one of the tallest buildings in Jersey City.

Harborside Plaza 10

• This building is an award-winning office tower right on the waterfront.
• It was built in 2002 for a company called Charles Schwab Corporation.
• Even though it was sold in 2003, Mack-Cali still manages it.

URBY Towers: New Homes at Harborside

Some parts of the Harborside area are now becoming a new living community called "URBY". Instead of more office buildings, these will be residential towers where people can live.

URBY Tower 1

• This is a 70-story residential tower with 763 apartments.
• Construction started in 2014 and was finished in 2017.
• It was designed by a Dutch company called Concrete.

URBY Towers 2 and 3

• These are two more residential towers that are planned for the URBY complex.
• Together, they will have a total of 1,595 apartments.
