A Glimpse into Harmaston's Past
Harmaston is found at the southwestern edge of Lake Houston. This area grew because of its connection to the timber industry. A special railroad line, called the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway, was built here to transport lumber.
Many lumbermen, who worked for companies like the Texas Longleaf Company, lived in Harmaston. They often stayed in a large boarding house. This shows how important the timber business was to the community. By the 1980s, most of Harmaston's original buildings were gone. The only thing left from its early days was an abandoned railway station.
