He was Donald Trump's doctor from 1980 until early 2018. Before that, Dr. Bornstein's father was also Donald Trump's personal physician.

Early Life and Education

Harold Bornstein was born in New York City. He went to Tufts University. In 1975, he earned his M.D. degree from Tufts. An M.D. degree means he became a medical doctor.

He received his license to practice medicine in New York State in 1976. Dr. Bornstein was certified as a specialist in two areas. These were Internal Medicine (in 1978) and Gastroenterology (in 1983).

Role as Donald Trump's Doctor

Dr. Bornstein was Donald Trump's personal doctor for many years. This role became well-known during Trump's presidential campaign.

The Medical Report

In December 2015, people asked about Donald Trump's health. Trump asked Dr. Bornstein to write a full medical report. Trump believed the report would show his health was "perfect."

Two days later, Dr. Bornstein signed a letter. The letter said Trump's "laboratory results are astonishingly excellent." It also stated that Trump "will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency."

In August 2016, Dr. Bornstein said he wrote the letter very quickly. He mentioned that Trump's car was waiting for it. He also said that Trump's health was "excellent," especially his mental health.

Later, in May 2018, Dr. Bornstein shared more details. He said that Donald Trump had told him what to write in the letter over the phone. Trump then sent a car to pick it up.

After the Election

In February 2017, Dr. Bornstein and his wife attended President Trump's inauguration. This is a special ceremony when a new president takes office. Dr. Bornstein told The New York Times that he enjoyed the attention. He liked being known as the President's personal doctor.

Dr. Bornstein had hoped to become the official physician to the President. However, the White House chose Ronny Jackson for that role.

Medical Records

On May 1, 2018, Dr. Bornstein told NBC News about an event. He said that three people representing Donald Trump visited his office. This happened on February 3, 2017. He stated they took all of Trump's medical records. He identified two of the people as Trump's bodyguard and a legal officer.

This happened two days after Dr. Bornstein had told a reporter something about Trump's health. After this, Trump stopped working with Dr. Bornstein.
