Harriet Evans was born in Ireland. Her father, Hugh Evans, was a skilled surgeon who worked for the military, specifically with the 5th Dragoon Guards. It's thought that a relative of hers might have been George Evans, who was the 4th Baron Carbery, a noble title. Harriet even dedicated one of her books to him.
Harriet got married for the first time around 1788 to Captain Robert Hesketh. He was a captain in the Royal Navy. They did not have any children together.
Marriages and Children
In May 1794, Harriet married again. Her second husband was Richard Martin, who was a well-known politician in Ireland. He was a Member of Parliament (MP), which means he was elected to represent people in the government. Richard Martin was born in 1754 and passed away in 1834.
Harriet and Richard Martin had four children together: three daughters and one son. One of their daughters, named Harriet Letitia Martin, also grew up to become a famous writer, just like her mother.
