Harrisburg, Gallia County, Ohio facts for kids
Harrisburg is a small place in Gallia County, which is part of the U.S. state of Ohio. When we say it's an unincorporated community, it means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or a town with its own local government. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
History of Harrisburg
Harrisburg was officially planned and mapped out in the year 1837. This process, called platting, is like drawing a blueprint for a new neighborhood or town, showing where streets, lots, and public spaces will be.
For a while, Harrisburg was also known by a slightly different name: Harris. A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in 1857 under the name Harris. This post office served the community for many years before it closed down in 1905.
