His Journey in Politics
Becoming a Local Councillor
Harry Harvey began his political journey in 2014. During the 2014 Northern Ireland local elections, he was chosen by the people to represent the Rowallane area. This role was on the Newry and Mourne District Council. He was re-elected for this position in 2019. A local councillor helps make decisions for their local community.
Moving to the Assembly
In September 2019, Harry Harvey took on a new role. He became a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for the Strangford area. This happened when he was "co-opted" into the role. Co-opted means he was appointed to fill a vacant seat. He took over from another politician named Simon Hamilton. The Northern Ireland Assembly is where laws are made for Northern Ireland.
