Discover Hartsholme Country Park

Hartsholme Country Park is a wonderful place to explore. It is centered around peaceful lakes and lovely gardens. These areas were first designed by Edward Milner in 1862. He created the landscape around a reservoir built in 1848.

The park is perfect for outdoor activities. You can enjoy walking, picnicking, and watching wildlife. It is a popular spot for families and nature lovers.

A Look Back: The Park's History

The park's beautiful grounds were once part of a private estate. A large house called Hartsholme Hall stood here. The hall was built along with the gardens. However, the hall was taken down in 1951. Around that time, the grounds became a public park for everyone to enjoy. This transformation made the park accessible to the community.

The Famous White Bridge

One of the park's well-known features is the White Bridge. This bridge crosses part of the lake. In July 2012, the White Bridge had to close. Its deck was removed in September for safety reasons. This bridge was built in 1962. It used the strong supports from an even older bridge from 1902.

The closure meant that a public path across the lake was interrupted. But don't worry, a new bridge was built! It used the original 1902 supports. The new White Bridge reopened on March 7, 2014. Now, visitors can cross the lake safely again.

Green Flag Award: A Mark of Excellence

Hartsholme Park has often received a special honor. It has been awarded the Green Flag Award many times. This includes awards in 2011 and 2013. The Green Flag Award is given out every year. It comes from a charity called Keep Britain Tidy.
