Haskell, Indiana facts for kids
Haskell is a small, unincorporated community located in LaPorte County, Indiana, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it is a place where people live, but it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is part of the larger county.
The Story of Haskell
Haskell began a long time ago, in the 1850s. It was first known as Haskell Station. This community grew because of the railroads. It was a "railroad town," meaning its growth was closely linked to the trains and tracks that passed through it.
People believe the community was named after James Haskell. He was one of the first settlers to live in that area. In 1857, a post office opened in Haskell. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1937.
