Hato Del Yaque has an interesting history. In 1979, a very strong storm called Hurricane David caused a lot of damage. It destroyed many homes near the river in the city of Santiago. After the hurricane, many people who lost their homes were moved to the area that is now Hato Del Yaque. This helped create the community we know today.
