The Hauts-Bassins is a special area, or region, in the country of Burkina Faso. It is located in the western part of the country. The main city and capital of this region is Bobo-Dioulasso.
This region was officially created on July 2, 2001. It is made up of three smaller areas called provinces. These provinces are Houet, Kénédougou, and Tuy.
