Haydain Neale (born September 3, 1970 – died November 22, 2009) was a talented Canadian singer and songwriter from Hamilton, Ontario. He was most famous as the lead singer of the popular band jacksoul, which won a Juno Award.
Haydain also helped teach songwriting at the Humber College Summer Songwriting Workshop. He was also the president of the Songwriters Association of Canada. He even starred in a special jazz opera called Québécité in 2003. In this opera, he played a Haitian-Québécois architect named Ovide Rimbaud.
Haydain's Accident
On August 3, 2007, Haydain Neale was in a traffic accident in Toronto. A car hit his Vespa scooter. He was taken to the hospital because he was badly hurt.
For a while, Haydain was in a coma. But on October 1, jacksoul's official website shared good news. They announced that Haydain was getting better and was still in the hospital. By January 8, 2008, his condition had continued to improve.
His Final Album and Passing
On October 26, 2009, jacksoul's website announced exciting news. The band would release their first new album in over three years. This album was called SOULmate.
It was planned to be released on December 1, 2009. The album had 10 brand new songs that Haydain had written before his accident. The first song from the album, "Lonesome Highway," came out on November 3, 2009.
Sadly, on the morning of November 22, 2009, Haydain Neale passed away. He was 39 years old. He died from lung cancer at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He had found out about his illness seven months earlier.
Haydain's wife, Michaela, shared a message. She said that even through his challenges, Haydain always had his sense of humor. He also kept his love for music. She added that he always made the room brighter with his singing and smile. His joyful presence and beautiful voice will be greatly missed by everyone.
All the money made from the SOULmate album went to the Haydain Neale Family Trust. This helped support his family.
