Hazel Green is a small town in Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. In 2000, about 1,043 people lived there. Part of the Village of Hazel Green is actually inside the town. Two other small places, Prairie Corners and Sinsinawa, are also partly located within the town.
History of Hazel Green
Long ago, when Wisconsin Territory was just starting to become popular because of its lead mines, this area had a different name. People called it Hardscrabble or Hard Scrabble. You might find these names in old history books!
The name changed to the more formal Hazel Green in 1838 when a post office was opened here. The very first known white settlers came to this area around 1822. They came to mine for lead, which was a very important metal at the time.

Hazel Green covers an area of about 35.2 square miles (which is about 91.1 square kilometers). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large lakes or rivers within the town's boundaries.
