The Hazelhurst Arts Centre is a cool place for art in Gymea, a suburb in southern Sydney, Australia. It's also called Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre or just Hazelhurst. This centre was the first of its kind in Australia. It has a huge garden that is about 1.4 hectares big.
The centre has two art galleries where you can see amazing artworks. There's also a small theatre for performances. You can find art studios, meeting rooms, a gift shop, and a cafe. Hazelhurst opened its doors on January 22, 2000. Michael Bennet, Esther, and Trevor Hayter designed the buildings. The beautiful gardens were designed by Oi Choong.
Discovering Hazelhurst's History
Hazelhurst Arts Centre was created thanks to a special gift. Ben and Hazel Broadhurst left their land for this purpose. The Sutherland Shire Council helped make their dream come true.
The land for Hazelhurst was bought in 1945. A two-story cottage was built there. A local architect named Harry Smith helped design it. Today, this cottage is used by artists. They can live and work there for a while. It's also a studio for digital media.
