Hebron is a small, unincorporated community in Adair County, Iowa, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
History of Hebron
Hebron was founded a long time ago, in the 1800s. It was named after an ancient city called Hebron, which is mentioned in history books.
This community is located in the southeastern part of Grand River Township. It's also very close to the Grand River.
Businesses and Community Life
Around 1904, Hebron had a special business called the Hebron Creamery. A creamery is a place where milk is processed to make butter and other dairy products.
Over the years, Hebron also had other important businesses and services for its residents:
- A general store, where people could buy many different things.
- A barber shop, for haircuts.
- An ice house, to keep food cold before refrigerators were common.
- A saw mill, which cut wood for building.
- A blacksmith shop, where metal tools and items were made.
The community also had a school for children to learn. There was a post office to send and receive mail. The Hebron Methodist Church was another important part of the community, and it is still open today.
Population Changes
Like many small communities, Hebron's population changed over time. In 1902, about 106 people lived there. By 1925, the population had decreased to 66 people.
