Hector, Ohio facts for kids
Hector is a small place in Ohio, United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Putnam County.
History of Hector
Hector was officially planned and mapped out in 1882. This process is called "platting." The community was named after a person named Hector Havemeyer, who owned the land.
A post office opened in Hector in 1883, helping people send and receive mail. However, it didn't stay open for long, closing its doors in 1900.
Hector also had a special factory that made "staves." These were long, thin pieces of wood used to build things like barrels. But the factory's success depended on the surrounding forests. Once most of the trees were cut down and the wood supply ran out, the factory couldn't operate anymore. This led to the community becoming much smaller.
