Hennediella heimii, also known as Heim's pottia, is a tiny moss that grows in small clumps. These clumps often look like little brown or yellow-green tufts. Each tuft is usually only about 2.5 millimeters tall, which is less than the width of a pencil eraser!

Hennediella heimii: Where It Lives

This special moss is often found in places where the ground is salty. You might spot Hennediella heimii growing in salt marshes near the coast. Salt marshes are wetlands that are regularly flooded by salty ocean water.

Recently, this moss has also been seen growing along the sides of roads. This happens in areas where salt is spread to melt ice in winter. The salt from the roads creates a salty environment that this moss enjoys.
