Heinz Lieven facts for kids

Heinz Lieven (born April 18, 1928 – died September 27, 2021) was a German actor. He was known for his many roles in TV shows, films, and on stage. He acted for over 70 years!

Life and Career

Heinz Lieven was born and grew up in Blankenese, a part of Hamburg, Germany. In 1948, he started learning how to act with famous actors Helmuth Gmelin and Bernhard Minetti.

Early Acting Days

Heinz Lieven began his acting career on stage at the Theater im Zimmer in Hamburg. After this, he traveled all over Germany with different theater groups. In the 1960s, he started acting in many TV shows.

Working in Berlin and Bremen

In 1971, a German director named Boleslaw Barlog invited Heinz Lieven to act at the Schillertheater in Berlin. He stayed there until 1978. Later, he also acted at Berlin's Volksbühne theater.

In 1978, he moved to Bremen, where he worked as a theatre director. This meant he was in charge of putting on plays. Three years later, Heinz Lieven moved back to his hometown of Hamburg. In 1995, he settled in his old neighborhood of Blankenese. During this time, he acted at several theaters in Hamburg, like the Hamburger Kammerspiele and Altonaer Theater, and also at the Theater Lübeck.

Film and TV Work

Besides his theater work, Heinz Lieven often appeared in TV films, TV series, and a few movies. He also gave readings where he would read texts by German writers and poets. He even traveled as an entertainer and acting coach on cruise ships, like the MS Deutschland.

He made his first international film appearance in Group Portrait with a Lady, directed by Aleksandar Petrovic. He also played a character named Aloise Lange in the 2011 movie This Must Be the Place. Heinz Lieven lived in Hamburg for most of his life.

Family Life

Heinz Lieven was married to a makeup artist named Hertha Lieven. They got married in 1966. They had two sons together.
