Helen Clapcott, born in 1952, is a talented English painter. She is known for her beautiful landscape paintings. Her artwork often shows the areas around Stockport, especially the old mills and how people have changed the land over time.

About Helen Clapcott

Helen Clapcott was born in Blackpool, England, in 1952. When she was ten years old, her family moved to Stockport. Today, she lives in Macclesfield with her husband, Ian Pollock, who is also an artist.

Her Art Education

Helen studied Fine Art at the Liverpool School of Art from 1971 to 1975. During this time, she won a special prize called the David Murray Landscape Award. This award allowed her to travel and paint in Morocco.

Later, from 1978 to 1979, she continued her studies at the Royal Academy Schools. She attended with her friend, Mary Mabbutt, who is also an artist. Helen won the David Murray Prize three times at the Academy Schools. The school even bought one of her paintings, called Life School in the Royal Academy, for its own collection. After finishing her studies, she received a scholarship from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. This scholarship helps young artists with their careers.

Art Exhibitions

Helen Clapcott's paintings have been shown in many art galleries. She has had exhibitions at places like Osborne Samuels, Messums, and Gallery Oldham.

In 1984, she had several solo exhibitions, which means her art was the only art on display. These shows were held at the Salford City Art Gallery, the Stockport War Memorial Gallery, and the Ginnel Gallery in Manchester. She also had another solo exhibition in 2003 at Scolar Fine Art.
