Hendrik Pekeler, born on July 2, 1991, is a talented German professional handball player. He plays for the famous team THW Kiel. In 2020, he was even named the best handball player in Germany!

Hendrik Pekeler's Handball Journey
Hendrik Pekeler started playing handball when he was young. He first played for ETSV Fortuna Glückstadt. Later, he joined MTV Herzhorn in 2004 and Bramstedter TS in 2007.
Starting His Professional Career
In 2008, Hendrik signed a four-year contract with THW Kiel, a big handball club. A year later, he played for TSV Altenholz in the 2. Bundesliga, which is a lower league. From 2009, he played for both the main Kiel team and their second team.
In 2010, he moved to Bergischer HC for two years. He helped this team get promoted to the top league, the Bundesliga, in 2011. In 2012, he joined TBV Lemgo for three years. Then, in 2014, he moved to Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
Returning to THW Kiel
In 2018, Hendrik Pekeler made a big move back to THW Kiel. This is where he plays now. During the 2022-23 season, he scored his 1000th goal in the Bundesliga! That's a lot of goals!
Playing for Germany
Hendrik Pekeler also played for the German national team. His first game for Germany was on March 14, 2012.
European Championship Success
At the 2016 European Championship, Hendrik was part of the German team. They won the whole tournament! They beat Spain in the final game with a score of 24-17.
Olympic Medal Winner
At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Hendrik and the German team won bronze medals. This was a huge achievement! For this, he received a special award called the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt. This award is one of the highest sports honors in Germany.
Other National Team Appearances
Hendrik also played in the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship, where Germany finished fourth. At the 2020 European Championship, his team finished fifth. He was recognized as the best defender in the "All-Star Team" for that tournament. He also represented Germany at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
In January 2024, Hendrik decided to stop playing for the German national team. However, he continues to play for his club team, THW Kiel.
