Henk Barnard (born August 8, 1922, in Rotterdam – died April 16, 2003, in Laren) was a famous Dutch writer. He was best known for his amazing children's books. Besides writing, he also worked as a journalist and directed television shows.

Henk Barnard's Career
Henk Barnard had a very interesting career. He didn't just write books! He also worked in television.
Television Work
From 1960 to 1962, Henk Barnard was a television director. He helped create parts of the popular TV series Pipo de Clown. These included episodes like Pipo en het zingende zwaard and Pipo in Kaliefland. He also worked on other shows. These were De proemel in 1962 and Ja zuster, nee zuster from 1966 to 1968.
Writing for Young Readers
Henk Barnard became very well-known for his children's books. His stories were loved by many young readers.
Award-Winning Books
In 1972, Barnard published a children's book called De Marokkaan en de kat van tante Da. This book was a big success! A year later, he won the Gouden Griffel award for it. This is a very important Dutch award for children's books.
He won the Gouden Griffel again in 1977. This time it was for his book Kon Hesi Baka / Kom gauw terug. Another one of his books, Laatste nacht in Jeque, also won an award. It received the Nienke van Hichtum-prijs in 1979.
Special Books and Honors
In 1974, Henk Barnard wrote a book called 2 is te veel. This book was a special gift for the Boekenweek. The Boekenweek is a yearly event in the Netherlands that celebrates books and reading.
Because of all his great work for children's literature, Henk Barnard received a very special honor. In 1982, he was given the Staatsprijs voor kinder- en jeugdliteratuur. This is a major state award for children's and youth literature.
Many of Henk Barnard's books had wonderful pictures. These illustrations were often done by his wife, Reintje Venema. Another artist, Fiel van der Veen, also illustrated some of his books.
