Judge Henry Autrey's Journey
Early Life and Education
Henry Autrey was born in Mobile, Alabama. He went to Saint Louis University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. He continued his studies there and received a law degree, called a Juris Doctor, in 1977. This degree allowed him to become a lawyer.
Starting His Legal Career
After finishing law school, Mr. Autrey worked as an assistant circuit attorney. This means he was a lawyer for the City of St. Louis. He held this job from 1977 to 1984. From 1984 to 1986, he became the first assistant circuit attorney.
Becoming a Judge
In 1986, Henry Autrey became an Associate Judge. He worked for the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court in St. Louis. He served in this role until 1997. Then, he became a circuit judge, which is a higher position in the same court. He was a circuit judge until 2002.
Serving as a Federal Judge
On March 21, 2002, President George W. Bush chose Henry Autrey to be a federal judge. He was nominated for a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The United States Senate then had to approve him. They confirmed his nomination on August 1, 2002. The very next day, he officially became a federal judge. He has been serving in this important role ever since.
