His Life and Work

From 1723 until he passed away, Henry Colley served as a representative for a place called Strabane. He worked in the Irish House of Commons, which was like the main meeting place for elected officials in Ireland at that time.

After Henry Colley died, his land and property went to his brother, Richard Wesley, 1st Baron Mornington. Richard changed his family name to Wesley. This happened because he inherited more land from his cousin, Garret Wesley. Richard Wesley was the grandfather of the 1st Duke of Wellington, a very famous military leader. Later on, future generations of the family changed the spelling of their name again, to Wellesley. They did this because they were related to an old family from the 1400s named Alison de Wellesley. She was the mother of Sir Thomas Cusack, who was an important judge in Ireland.
