Henry Elmore (December 2, 1941 – January 8, 2023) was an American baseball player. He was a third baseman who played in the Negro leagues. These leagues were professional baseball leagues for African American players. Henry Elmore played from 1960 to 1962.

He played for the Philadelphia Stars and the Birmingham Black Barons. After the Negro leagues ended, he continued to play baseball. He had a long career in the Birmingham Industrial League.

Early Life and Baseball Beginnings

Henry Elmore was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He started playing baseball when he was in Ulmer High School. His great-uncle, Jim "Shifty" West, was also a Negro league player. Jim West inspired Henry to play baseball.

In 1960, Henry Elmore signed with the Philadelphia Stars. He mostly played second base and third base.

Playing with the Black Barons

The next year, Elmore joined the Birmingham Black Barons. This gave him a chance to play with famous players. He played alongside baseball legends like Satchel Paige and Reece "Goose" Tatum.

Henry Elmore played with the Black Barons for two years. The Negro leagues stopped playing after the 1962 season.

Life After Professional Baseball

After his time in the Negro leagues, Henry Elmore started a new career. He worked at the Stackham Valves and Fittings Company in Birmingham. He worked there for 35 years.

He still loved baseball and kept playing. He played in the Birmingham Industrial League for 12 years. He was often one of the best hitters in that league. Henry Elmore later got married and had five children.
