Sir Henry Glemham was the oldest son of Thomas Glemham. His family lived at Glemham Hall in Suffolk, England. When his father passed away in 1571, Henry was still young, but he inherited the family estate. He later studied law at a famous place called Inner Temple in 1585. In 1591, he was given the special title of "Sir" (knighted).

In 1593, Sir Henry was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a town called Lewes. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons. He was elected again for Lewes in 1597.

Adventures Abroad and Return to England

In 1600, Sir Henry Glemham received permission to travel outside England. He visited Rome, hoping to help other English people there. However, when he arrived, he was held because people thought he might be a spy. He was only released thanks to the help of a Jesuit priest named Robert Persons.

When Queen Elizabeth I heard about Sir Henry's meeting with Robert Persons, she had him placed in the Fleet Prison upon his return to England. Luckily, his father-in-law, Lord Buckhurst, stepped in to help. Sir Henry was eventually set free.

After this adventure, his political career continued. In 1601, he was elected as a knight of the shire for Suffolk. This meant he represented the whole county in Parliament. He also worked as a J.P. (a local judge) for Suffolk and helped organize soldiers in 1601.

In 1604, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Ipswich. By 1613, he was also a Deputy Lieutenant, helping the main Lieutenant of the county. He was elected as an MP again for Aldeburgh in 1614 and once more in 1621.
