General Sir Henry Cholmondeley Jackson (born August 12, 1879 – died October 19, 1972) was an important British Army General. He held many high-ranking positions in the army during the 1930s. He served his country for 40 years, from 1899 until 1939.

Sir Henry Jackson's Army Career
Sir Henry Jackson began his army journey in 1899. He joined the 1st Bedfordshire Regiment as an officer. This was the start of a long and successful military career.
Early Roles and Training
In 1908, he became an Adjutant at the Mounted Infantry School. This school was located at Longmoor. An adjutant helps with administrative tasks and training.
Serving in World War I
During the First World War, Sir Henry played a key role. In April 1918, he became the General Officer Commanding of the 50th (Northumbrian) Division. This division was fighting on the Western Front. He helped lead his troops during this major conflict.

Important Commands After the War
After the war ended, Sir Henry continued to rise through the ranks.
- In 1919, he became the Commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade.
- By 1924, he was the Commandant at the Machine Gun School in Netheravon. This meant he was in charge of training soldiers how to use machine guns.
- In 1926, he moved to India. There, he became the Director of Military Training at Army Headquarters.
- He returned to lead the 2nd Division in 1931.
- His final major role was in 1936. He became the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief for Western Command. He retired from the army in 1939.
Sir Henry was also the Colonel of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. He held this honorary position from 1935 to 1948.
Sir Henry's Family Life
In 1919, Sir Henry Jackson married Dorothy Nina Seymour. Dorothy also served her country. She worked with the Voluntary Aid Detachment and the British Red Cross Society during the First World War. She later became a Junior Commander in the Auxiliary Territorial Service between 1939 and 1942. Dorothy passed away in 1953.
