Henry O'Brien, 7th Earl of Thomond facts for kids
Henry O'Brien, 7th Earl of Thomond (born around 1620, died May 2, 1691) was an important Irish nobleman. He was known as Lord Ibrackan from 1639 until 1657. He was also a member of the Privy Council of Ireland, which was a group of trusted advisors to the King or Queen in Ireland.
Who Was Henry O'Brien?
Henry O'Brien was the son of Barnabas O'Brien, 6th Earl of Thomond and Anne Fermor. His family was very important in Ireland. He inherited the title of Earl of Thomond, which meant he was a high-ranking noble.
His Marriages and Family
Henry O'Brien was married twice. His first wife was his cousin, Anne O'Brien. They married in 1641. Anne was the daughter of Henry O'Brien, 5th Earl of Thomond. Sadly, Anne passed away in September 1645.
Henry and Anne had one son together:
- Henry, Lord Ibrackan (born around 1642, died 1678)
After Anne's death, Henry O'Brien married Sarah Russell. Sarah was the daughter of Sir Francis Russell. She was also the widow of Sir John Reynolds.
This marriage made Henry O'Brien a brother-in-law to Henry Cromwell. Henry Cromwell was the son of the famous English leader, Oliver Cromwell. Henry Cromwell had married Sarah Russell's sister, Elizabeth.
Henry and Sarah had five children:
- Henry, who sadly died when he was a baby.
- Henry Horatio, Lord Ibrackan (died 1690). He later became the father of Henry O'Brien, 8th Earl of Thomond.
- Elizabeth (died June 3, 1688). She did not have any children.
- Auberie Anne Penelope. She married Henry Howard, 6th Earl of Suffolk and had children.
- Mary. She married Sir Matthew Dudley, 2nd Baronet.
