Who Was Henry Reynolds-Moreton?
Lord Moreton came from an important family. His father was Henry Reynolds-Moreton, 3rd Earl of Ducie, and his mother was Julia Langston. He was known for his work in politics and his interest in local language.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1880, Lord Moreton became a Member of Parliament (MP) for a region called Gloucestershire West. An MP is someone elected by people to represent them in the country's government. He served in this role until 1885.
A Love for Words
Lord Moreton also had a special interest in language. He helped create a book in 1890 that explained old words and phrases used in Gloucestershire. He even added some words from Tortworth, the area where he lived at Tortworth Court. This book helped preserve the unique way people spoke in that region.
His Later Years
Lord Moreton passed away in February 1920, when he was 62 years old. He died one year before his father. His uncle, Berkeley Basil Moreton, later became the Earl of Ducie.
