Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Henry Wardlaw of Torrie was an important Scottish landowner and a helper at the royal court. He lived a long time ago, in the 1500s.

Henry was the son of John Wardlaw of Torrie and Elizabeth Beaton. His family lived in a place called Torrie, which is in Torryburn parish in Fife. Elizabeth Beaton, his mother, was the sister of a very powerful church leader named Cardinal David Beaton.

Henry Wardlaw was a loyal supporter of Mary, Queen of Scots. He even fought for her in a big battle called the battle of Langside in 1568. After this battle, Mary lost power. Because Henry supported her, his land and property were taken away by Regent Moray, who was then in charge of Scotland. His property was given to another person, James Cunningham of Drumwuhassill.
