A Tragic Event
Henry Younger was a businessman. He often carried money for his work. Sadly, he was robbed many times. This made his son Cole very upset. Cole felt his father should fight back.
On July 20, 1862, Henry was on a business trip. He was going to Kansas City. He had $1,500 with him, which was a lot of money back then. About a mile south of Westport, he was attacked. He was shot three times and died.
It was later found that the killing was not just a robbery. It was connected to the political tensions of the time. The family was worried that Union soldiers might disturb his grave. So, they buried him in a secret, unknown location.
