The Herbert Maximilian Fox House is a really old farmhouse that's important enough to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special building that tells us about history! It's located in Sherburne County, Minnesota.

This house wasn't always in the same spot! In 2006, it was carefully moved to the Sherburne History Center in Becker, Minnesota. Before that, it stood in Santiago Township.

What Makes This House Special?

Built to Last: Pioneer Style

This farmhouse is a great example of how pioneers built homes in the mid-1800s. It's a small, simple house, perfect for someone living off the land.

Unique Wall Construction

What makes this house truly special is its unique way of building walls. Instead of using regular planks laid flat, it has strong, thick oak planks that stand straight up! These planks are about 2 inches thick and 14 inches wide. They are called "vertical plank walls" and they help hold up the entire house. This was a clever way to build sturdy homes when materials might have been limited.
