Herbert Pugh was born in Ireland. Around 1758, he moved to London, England. He lived in a famous area called the Piazza, Covent Garden. Pugh passed away sometime after the year 1788.

Early Exhibitions
Pugh was one of the first artists to show his work at the Society of Artists. This was a very important art group. In 1760, he displayed a painting called 'Landscape with Cattle'.
Awards and Memberships
In 1765, Pugh won an award from the Society of Arts. This showed that his work was highly valued. The next year, in 1766, he became a member of the newly formed Society of Artists. He continued to show his paintings with them until 1776.
Painting Styles and Subjects
Pugh also tried painting in the style of another famous artist, William Hogarth. These paintings were not as successful, but some of them were made into prints. One of Pugh's large landscape paintings was given to the Lock Hospital. He also painted two well-known views of London Bridge. These paintings were shown in a special art exhibition in 1888.
