Herbert Rosendorfer (born February 19, 1934, died September 20, 2012) was a talented German writer, judge, historian, and even a composer! He was known for his many books, plays, and musical pieces.

About Herbert Rosendorfer

Herbert Rosendorfer was born in a village called Gries, which is now part of Bolzano in South Tyrol. When he was a young boy, from 1939 to 1943, he lived in Munich, Germany. In 1943, he moved to Kitzbühel and then returned to Munich five years later.

After finishing school, Herbert first studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich for a year. But then he decided to study law at the University of Munich.

From 1967 to 1993, Herbert Rosendorfer worked as a judge in Munich. A judge is someone who makes decisions in court cases. After that, he became a Justice at a higher court in Naumburg. He also taught about the history of Bavarian literature as a professor at the University of Munich starting in 1990.

After he retired, he lived in Eppan, back in South Tyrol, until he passed away on September 20, 2012.

Awards and Special Recognitions

Herbert Rosendorfer received many special awards and honors for his work. He was a member of important groups like the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz.

  • The 1991 Ernst Hoferichter Award
  • The 1992 Upper Bavarian Cultural Prize

  • The Twelve Apostles of Rohrdorf; this piece was first performed on December 1, 2005, at the Benedictine school in Ettal.
  • Concerto in D major for oboe and chamber orchestra, opus 14 (2008).
