Hereford, Missouri facts for kids
Hereford is a small, unnamed place in the northwest part of Callaway County, Missouri. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. You can find Hereford about 2.5 miles north of I-70 on Missouri Route DD.
History of Hereford
The area known as Hereford got its name from a special type of cow! Back in 1898, a post office was opened there. It was named after the famous Hereford cattle that were common in the area. The post office stayed open for a few years, closing its doors in 1907. Even though the post office is gone, the name Hereford still reminds people of the cattle that once roamed those lands.
