Hereford cattle are a very popular type of cow. People mostly raise them for their beef. They are often found in places with mild weather, like parts of Australia and New Zealand.
Hereford cattle first came from a place called Herefordshire in England. Even though they started in a cool, wet country, they have become very good at living in many different climates all over the world. You can find them thriving in hot, dry areas like the American Southwest and also in countries like Argentina and Uruguay. This shows how tough and adaptable they are!

What Makes Herefords Special?
Hereford cattle are known for their strong bodies and good nature. They are usually red-brown with white faces, bellies, and legs. This unique look makes them easy to spot!
Polled Herefords: Born Without Horns
Some Hereford cattle are born without horns. These are called Polled Herefords. The word "polled" means they naturally don't grow horns because of a special gene.
Farmers sometimes breed horned Herefords with Polled Herefords. This can help create calves that are also born without horns. This is a good thing because it means farmers don't have to remove the horns later, which can be stressful for the animals and sometimes cause them to lose weight.
