Heri was born in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. This place has inspired many of his songs. Besides Týr, he also has a solo music project called Heljareyga.
Early Life and Music Journey
Heri Joensen was born in Tórshavn, the capital city of the Faroe Islands, on February 21, 1973. He grew up in a place called Toftir, and later his family moved to the small village of Lamba.
When Heri was about fourteen years old, he started playing the guitar. By the time he was seventeen, he was already playing in local bands. Around this time, he moved to Runavík, a busy fishing port.
Like many people from the Faroe Islands, Heri moved to Denmark to continue his education. There, he met his old bandmate Kári Streymoy. Together, they started forming the band Týr. Heri decided to focus on music and studied guitar, vocals, and music theory at a music school in Copenhagen.
Musical Instruments and Style
Heri Joensen is known for playing a special type of guitar called a 7-string guitar. This guitar has an extra string, which allows for a wider range of notes. On stage, he uses a unique guitar made from mahogany wood. It was designed by Bjarnastein, a company from the Faroe Islands.
Other Interests and Skills
Heri Joensen is also known for being good with languages. He can speak several languages, including Faroese, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, English, and German.
He has also appeared as a guest musician on other bands' songs. For example, he played a guitar solo for the band Alestorm in their song "Barrett's Privateers." He also sang on Ensiferum's cover of the song "Vandraren."
