The Herman M. and Hanna Hediger House is a special home located in Neillsville, Wisconsin. It was built in a unique style that reminds people of houses in Switzerland.

About the Hediger House

This house was built in 1949 by Herman M. Hediger and his wife, Hanna. They were immigrants from Switzerland. They wanted their new home to look like the traditional houses from their home country.

A Home with Swiss Roots

The Hedigers designed their house in the style of a Swiss chalet. These homes often have wide, overhanging roofs and decorative wood carvings. To make sure it was just right, they even brought a special cabinet-maker and a mason (a person who works with stone and bricks) all the way from Switzerland to help build it.

Herman Hediger came to America around 1921. He worked as a cheesemaker in places like Christie and Neillsville. His love for his Swiss heritage clearly influenced the design of his family home.

Becoming a Historic Landmark

Because of its unique design and history, the Herman M. and Hanna Hediger House is very important. In 2013, it was added to both the State and the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is officially recognized as a place that is important to the history of Wisconsin and the United States.
