The Hermitage of Santo Cristo de Miranda is a special religious building located in Santa María de las Hoyas, a town in the Province of Soria, Spain. A hermitage is like a small church or chapel, often built in a quiet place for prayer and reflection.
History of the Hermitage
This ancient building has a long history. It was first built way back in the 13th century, which means it's over 800 years old! However, most of what you see today isn't from that original time. Only the main door is still from the 13th century. The rest of the building was rebuilt and updated in the 18th century, about 300 years ago.
Inside the hermitage, there's a very old and beautiful artwork. It's a carving from the 14th century, called El Santo Cristo de Miranda. This carving is "polychrome," which means it's painted with many different colors, making it look very lifelike and detailed. It's a significant piece of art and history found within this historic building.
