Herrick, Ohio facts for kids
Herrick was once a small town located in Jefferson County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It's known as an "extinct town" because it no longer exists as a populated place.
History
Herrick began as a busy mining community. This means many people who lived there worked in the mines, especially for the O'Neal Coal Mining Company, which dug for coal in the area.
To serve the people living in Herrick, a post office was opened in 1904. A post office is where people send and receive mail, and it was a very important part of daily life back then. However, as the mining operations changed or slowed down, the town likely became less active. The post office eventually closed in 1930, which often happens when a community shrinks or disappears.
