What's the Story About?
The main character is a boy named Keith. People also call him the "Deptford Dodger." Keith has run away from a special school for young people who have gotten into trouble. He really wants to find his dad. Keith's dad told him in a letter that he was leaving England.
But then, Keith meets two local children. They help him discover something surprising. His father isn't actually leaving the country. Instead, he is planning to rob a bank!
