Hideo Oshima (大島 秀夫, Ōshima Hideo, born March 7, 1980) is a Japanese football coach and former player. He was a forward, which means he played in an attacking position to score goals. Today, he works as an assistant manager for the J1 League club Yokohama F. Marinos.

Hideo Oshima's Football Journey

Hideo Oshima was born in Isesaki, Japan, on March 7, 1980. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career in 1998.

Early Career and First Clubs

  • In 1998, Hideo joined J1 League club Yokohama Flügels. He played a few matches as a forward.
  • Sadly, the club had to close down at the end of 1998.
  • In 1999, Hideo moved to Kyoto Purple Sanga. He didn't get to play much in matches during this time.

Becoming a Key Player

  • In 2001, Hideo joined J2 League club Montedio Yamagata. This is where he really started to shine!
  • He became a regular player and played in many games until 2004.
  • In 2004, Hideo scored an amazing 22 goals. This made him the top Japanese scorer in the J2 League that year.

Success with Yokohama F. Marinos

  • In 2005, Hideo moved to Yokohama F. Marinos, a big club in the J1 League.
  • He played in many matches and became a regular forward by 2007.
  • In 2007, he scored 14 goals, making him the top Japanese scorer in the J1 League for that year.
  • However, he played less often in late 2008 and left the club at the end of that season.

Later Career and Retirement

  • In 2009, Hideo joined Albirex Niigata. He continued to be a regular player until 2010.
  • In August 2011, he moved to another J2 club, JEF United Chiba.
  • In 2012, he played for Consadole Sapporo. Even though he played in many matches as a substitute, the team moved down to the J2 League.
  • From 2013 to 2016, Hideo played for Giravanz Kitakyushu in the J2 League. He often came in as a substitute.
  • In 2016, he played less, and his team finished last, moving down to the J3 League.
  • Hideo Oshima decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2016 season. He played a total of 494 matches and scored 98 goals in his career.
