Hightogy, also known as Ridge Beat or Simmon Town, is a small community in Lamar County, Alabama, in the United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Hightogy is located along Alabama State Route 17, about 4.8 miles (7.7 km) south-southeast of the town of Vernon.
History of Hightogy
The name Hightogy might come from two old words: "high" and "tor." The word "tor" is an old Middle English word that means "high, craggy hill." So, Hightogy could mean "high hill." A post office was open in Hightogy from 1890 to 1909, helping people send and receive mail in the community.
