A Church with a Long History
Early Settlers and the First Church
In the early 1850s, many families from Norway came to live in Eureka Township. They wanted a place to worship, so in 1860, they officially started a Lutheran church. At first, it was called the Norwegian-Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Christiana Settlement. This name showed their heritage.
Building the Beautiful Church
The church building you see today was built between 1877 and 1878. A skilled builder named Hans Berg Larsen led the construction. It was built right where an older log church used to stand. The new church was officially opened in 1878.
A Landmark in Minnesota
This church is very important because it's one of the oldest church buildings in Minnesota that has been used continuously since it was built. That means people have been worshipping there without stopping for a very long time! Since 1966, it has been known as the Highview Christiania Lutheran Church. Because of its long history and importance, the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
